Ambassador Dan Rooney Unveils 9/11 Memorial in Roscommon, Ireland

Dan Rooney, US Ambassador to Ireland, along with his wife Patricia, dedicated Ireland's first memorial to the victims of 9/11 in Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon, on Friday, April 27, 2012.

The ceremony took place at the town's Fire Station.

"This memorial is unique and there is nothing of its kind anywhere in the country. It has been a number of years in the making and was conceived as a way to express solidarity with our brotherhood, the firemen and policemen who lost their lives in 9/11 and to mark the sacrifice that was made by them,"  said Michael Frain, one of the firemen involved in the memorial.
