Dan Rooney , US Ambassador to Ireland, along with his wife Patricia, dedicated Ireland's first memorial to the victims of 9/11 in Ballaghaderreen , County Roscommon, on Friday, April 27, 2012.  The ceremony took place at the town's Fire Station . "This memorial is unique and there is nothing of its kind anywhere in the country. It has been a number of years in the making and was conceived as a way to express solidarity with our brotherhood, the firemen and policemen who lost their lives in 9/11 and to mark the sacrifice that was made by them,"  said Michael Frain, one of the firemen involved in the memorial.
